In the fall of 2010 Brother introduced the HL-2200 family of monochrome printers worldwide. OEM rated print speeds ranged from 24 pages per minute (ppm) in the HL-2230, 2240 and 2242 models to 27 ppm in the HL-2270 model. All have a monthly duty cycle of 10,000 pages per month.

The supplies set for all machines in the series is made up of 1,200 page standard yield and 2,600 page high yield cartridges. Internally each is physically the same but with different OEM SKUs for the different geographic markets. Toner cartridges and drum units are sold separately. A flag (reset) gear is located on the toner cartridge, and neither the drum units nor toner cartridges are chipped.
